PlantWatcher. New gizmo claims to revolutionise unattended plant watering by using a special sensor to deliver just the right amount of H2O for the plant’s needs. It all sounds very clever, and with a single unit delivering enough water for a 12 inch pot plant for a month, very useful. I’d love to try one out and see if it delivers on the promise. Priced from $7.95 for the smallest size pot.
Because root demand turns the PlantWatcher on and off, we say: “With PlantWatcher, the plant waters itself.” With water available, PlantWatcher stands by in the plant…The space age sensor… is in contact with the soil constantly measuring soil moisture. Moisture decreases as the roots suck water out of the soil. Available water in the soil migrates toward the roots and sucks water out of the sensor by capillary action. When water is removed from the sensor, air can flow through the sensor and allow water to slowly drip out of the PlantWatcher. In other words, the sensor is an air control valve.
I have tried a lot of these all of which have been mediocre at best but this product works. I have 4 of these, 2 of which are in Orchids and the others are in hanging plants in which I do not know what their names are. All of which are doing great I plain on buying more for my outside plants.
