Pyrocumunlonimbus Storms – Australia’s bush fires are making their own weather

The bush fires in Australia are really bad. If you’ve been paying attention to the news at all then you’ve likely seen video or read reports about how terrible these blazes are. In fact, they are so big this year that they are actually generating their own weather patterns and creating pyrocumulonimbus types of thunderstorms. Which can drop rain, which is great, but also potentially lightening which is. . . not so great.

Ozone Hole Smaller than Normal – smallest it has been in thirty years

We’ve been hearing about the hole in the ozone layer since the 80s. Man made chemicals caused it and there was a substantial push for those chemicals to be taken out of production. Which is great. The hole this year is the smallest it’s been in the thirty years! But it has nothing to do with human effort.

WunderMap is an interactive weather map on steroids

What is it about the weather that’s so fascinating? Sure it’s nice to know whether it’s going to rain, but apart from that who needs to know the wind direction at 2.30pm? We reckon it comes from our primordial past when man worked with the elements to survive harvest panics and stuff like that. We also suspect that weather forecasting hasn’t really improved that much since the days when a Shaman threw some bones in the fire, but tell you…
