The world is becoming more automated, anyone paying even a little bit of attention is likely aware of that. AI is being used in a variety of ways for research to news reporting in our fast paced society but in Estonia, they want to take it further. They want to bring AI into the court room.
They are actually working to use AI to automate a number of governmental tasks from licensing to checking out crops that receive subsidies all in a bid to have a leaner government. The addition of a digital “workforce” means that less manpower is needed without lowering services.
The court aspect would be used in minor, civil cases such as contract disputes. Parties will be able to appeal to a human judge (the AI’s word isn’t final on the matter). They’re still programming and testing but a pilot system may be rolled out later this year. Looks like government work isn’t so safe anymore, at least not in Estonia.
