An Electric Hummer that Can Get 100 MPG? – say it ain’t so!

Electtic Hummer

Those who love big cars but still want to remain eco-friendly take heart! The H3 Electric Hummer premiered last week at the 2009 SAE International World Congress in Detroit.

Governor Schwarzenneger inspects the H3

Billed as being greener than a Prius in clover, with a 40 mile all-electric range and fuel efficiency over 100 mpg, the prototype uses Raser Technologies’ plug-in hybrid E-REV (Extended-Range Electric Vehicle) 200KW advanced AC induction motor connected to a 4WD transmission. Will it fly? Well let’s just say the odds on GM maintaining enough traction to fund more joint development on this product are not fantastic. One for the history books perhaps?

  • I am happy they didn't convert that butt-ugly H2. The H3 may be a good pulling horse for a new innovation, but I'd like to see the original H1 modded and tampered with, and greenhoused / eco-nated. So my dreams of owning one would be less shady ;)
