Android Oreo (Go Edition) – Google’s solution to the problems with entry level phones

If you have an entry level phone, you may have noticed that it doesn’t really work very well after the first time Android updates. Google is aware of this problem and to help, they’re releasing a new OS, made especially for “starter” phones. Android Oreo (Go edition) is the OS made for phones with low storage.

It will be rolling out with the launch of Android 8.1 and is meant to be installed on low cost, entry level devices. Their grand idea is making a system that will offer a smooth, low frustration option for people who are “just coming online for the first time.” The reality of many of these devices however is that people use them not because they’re just starting but because they’re cheap.

The new OS will have a suite of classic apps that have been streamlined to be less weight on systems that simply don’t have the storage. This will allow the devices to work better and for longer. Right now, entry level phones are often frustrating because they quickly run out of storage leaving the user with very limited options and ability. Check out the press release for full features of the new OS.
