Most of us spend a lot of time, maybe too much, grabbing video clips on our smartphones. Any time anything extraordinary happens, you can guarantee the phones will be whipped out so everyone present can make sure the moment lives on for ever on YouTube or somewhere equally exciting.
The big problem is we’re not particularly great videographers, so the results can be really shoddy, and there’s nothing more depressing than getting home to discover your fab video of Lady Gaga slugging Justin Bieber is badly framed and in need of some serious editing.
Luckily there’s help at hand in the form of the AndroVid Video Editor, which offers a surprisingly good set of tools for editing videos right there in your phone. No computer needed. The app obviously lets you do things like trim and split your clips, but it also goes on to let you grab stills from the video, which is awesome for YouTube thumbnails.
You can also add all the usual effects, but if you’re a serious player, you’ll want to stump up the extra cash for the Pro version to add things like slow motion and super high quality file conversion and export of your results. But even so, the freeware version has enough cool tweaks to satisfy the most demanding user, and best of all, you can preview the Pro results without buying, to see if it makes sense for you to upgrade.
The best thing about the app, however, is the interface, which makes it a doddle to tweak and experiment in seconds. You can preview your changes with a single button, and revert instantly if you don’t like something, and because the menu is so intuitive, it’s very easy to try out stuff without wasting lots of time. This is one of the best apps of its type we’ve come across on the Android platform, and definitely well worth the download. It’s also probably worth the upgrade too, especially if you do a lot of video shooting.
