App Store Scam – watch out for these dodgy dealers

iphone-on-couch

We’re an Android shop around these parts for the most part but more important than OS lines, is our readers’ safety. It seems that scammers have found their way into the App Store market and are conning people for their personal information.

The tactic they’re using is nothing new, they appear to be uploading apps that mimic popular brands with the idea that shoppers looking for a deal or to make purchases will login and give away their information. Apple is aware of the issue and is working to stop it.

In the meantime, be on the lookout for apps that seem a bit off. Look for grammatical issues in the description and complaints in the reviews. If they are a large brand and do not have any or very few reviews, that’s a bad sign. The safest bet is to find the download on the store’s official website, that way you know it’s safe. As always, if something doesn’t seem right, it’s better to be safe than sorry.
