Apple’s App Store now open for business

If you’re a Mac user, then you may want to grab that latest software update for OSX. As long as you’re already running Snow Leopard, you can download 10.6.6, which among other things, gives you access to the new App Store. That’s right, it’s live!

As of now there are roughly 1,000 apps (both free and paid) in the store, but this number will no doubt increase substantially in the future. One of the most notable things is that you can purchase individual iLife programs (such as iPhoto or iMovie) without buying the whole bundle.

I’m certainly for this movement toward a single hub where you can find, purchase and update software for your computer. This saves people from having to scour the web to try and find something useful, and then be disappointed by it because they didn’t have access to user reviews that warn them to steer clear. Of course, I’m only for this model because you do still have the ability to get your software from another source.
