There’s no doubt that using a hard disk defragging tool is one of easiest ways to improve the performance of an older computer, so it’s always good to report on new products which offer value in this area.
The Auslogics Disk Defrag program is a free utility which not only defrags the drive, but also optimises the hard disk by moving system files to a more efficient location for faster loading, and by ‘consolidating’ free space to improve speed. I tried it at Ferret Towers and it was noticeably faster than the Windows defrag tool, and that’s without the benefit of the optimisation stuff. It also includes a scheduler and the ability to defrag a single folder or file if you’re short on time. Definitely a keeper.
System files smart placement Commonly used by Windows, system files may be scattered all over the disk and intermixed with data files. Disk Defrag 3 arranges system files by defragmenting and moving them to the faster part of the disk. This minimizes the time needed for HDD to access system files improving overall computer performance.
