Autotune.Net – freeware autotune cleans up your singing mistakes

Autotunenet1

Autotune.Net is freeware program (offered as part of a DIY coding exercise) which lets you tweak audio tracks to improve or embellish the pitch of the sound. Autotune is used extensively in the pop industry nowadays to make average singers sound better, and in some cases it’s even become a feature of various artists (see T-Pain and Ellen jamming below).

The proper professional software costs over $200 and features all sorts of bells and whistles, but this free version will give you a fun taster of what autotune can do to your music. Hint: it can be fun. Oh, and here’s a free AutoTune app for Android for you to be playing around with.

For this project, we will be creating an autotune effect for .NET. Serious recording enthusiasts should just go out and buy a decent autotune effect, but to have a little fun, we’ll see if we can make an autotune that can give us a poor man’s Cher effect (or T-Pain effect, if you prefer).
