AvoSeedo – grow yourself an endless supply of free avocados

avoseedo3

Avocados are awesome. Healthy, tasty and versatile, who doesn’t love them? But if you’ve ever tried to grow your own tree from an old pit, you’ll know it’s far from easy. The pit either doesn’t grow nicely or goes rotten, which is a shame. But now an enterprising German dude has come up with a rather ingenious solution.

The AvoSeedo is a clever little $6 tool which lets you germinate and grow avocados anywhere with no fuss and no muss. Just pop the pit out, as you do normally when eating your delicious avo, peel it, and pop it into the little AvoSeedo container (the right way up). Put the whole thing into any suitable container of water, and let it do its thing.

Around six weeks later, all being equal, you will have some nice roots showing, and you can transplant to a nice pot or patch for ongoing flowering and fruiting. Note that avocado trees take from four to six years to bear fruit and need warmth, no wind and a lot of indirect sunlight . You’ll also need two A/B plants/trees for cross-pollination. But if all you want is a nice little indoor plant, then this should do you nicely without all the waiting around.

The product is currently on offer via a crowdfunding offer.

  • I used to do this with three cocktail sticks and a jam jar. They never grew very well or bore fruit. There must be easy plans somewhere online.

    • The fruit bearing part is near on impossible without the right conditions I understand. This device is supposed to replace the cocktail sticks. What a shame they’re so hard to cultivate. So delicious. :)
