Everyone likes live music! It’s really fun to see a band, especially if they’re you’re favorite band, play live but there is a carbon cost to that. A pretty high one in some cases. Your local group probably isn’t creating a whole lot of emissions but your stadium band, in most cases, are. A few musicians have taken a stand for the climate.
Bands like Coldplay, Radiohead, and Massive Attack have all looked into their carbon footprint for live tours and decided to make changes to lower it. Coldplay was the most radical in that they have decided to stop touring but Massive Attack and Radiohead have changed their touring schedules to lower their footprints.
We cause emissions as well when we travel to see bands. This doesn’t mean you shouldn’t go! But maybe look into more carbon friendly ways to travel, buy local tickets when you can, and carpool with a friend.
