Hmm, can anyone say iPod Fiasco? Browsing through the Siemens SX1 user manual yesterday I came across this little beauty on Page 96:
‘Regardless of this, the battery has been designed and manufactured so that it can be recharged and used for six months after the purchase of your mobile phone. After six months, if the battery is clearly suffering from loss of performance, we recommend that you replace it.
So is this the start of a new trend, and if so where does it stop? Six month battery life is bad enough, but will we soon be expected to buy expensive rechargeable replacement batteries for our devices every month?
Interestingly enough, as far as I can tell you currently can’t buy an SX1 battery anyway – they’re still on unpriced ‘Forward Order’ status everywhere. So pity the poor users who bought the handset and may end up facing a huge battery bill when the price and availability is finally announced.
