OK, as long time tea drinkers we’re going to come out and say it. The stuff you get in most cafes and coffee bars is generally closer to dodgy dish water than a properly brewed cup of tea. Unlike the craft of brewing coffee using clever machines, all most baristas tend to do is dunk a tea bag in a hot cup of water and hope for the best. Disaster.
So we’re all over this new high tech tea brewing machine from the US. Here’s hoping it goes into all the shops as fast as possible. The BKON Craft Brewer is a $13,000 machine which can brew up to 60 cups an hour, from an internal recipe base of up to 200 different brews. But the important bit is the fact that it’s designed to ‘consistently’ deliver an optimum brew every time.
Can we just give a big ‘YAY’ here? Now for real tea aficionados, brewing a cuppa in 60 seconds sounds like sacrilege of the highest order, but hey, if they can use vacuum technology and whatnot to extract the perfect taste from any type of loose leaf tea, we’re like bring it on dude.
Yes it’s expensive (although let’s hope they can bring out a home version if it works as well as they say) but if that’s the price we have to pay for awesome tea, we’ll be happy. After all those fancy copper covered coffee brewing machines can’t be cheap either. Ditch the ditch water we say.

I think I will keep my kettle, teapot and loose tea method. As everything is added by estimate each brew is subtly different and keeps things interesting.
Luddite. :)
