Chronic illnesses that attack the mind are the stuff of nightmares for many people. In the future, we may be able to combat these with brain chips implanted directly into our minds. Sure, this sounds like the stuff of science fiction (and is the basis of many stories) but new breakthroughs could lead to a reality for this technology.
A group of scientists have used math and computers to replicate the activity of nerve cells with circuits. This would, in theory, one day allow them to treat diseases that degenerate neurons as they will be able to mimic their activity.
This is a very new breakthrough and practical use is a long way off from where we are now but this is a potential piece of the puzzle that may, one day, lead to freedom from such disorders for many.
