Bulletin – this app wants to deliver hyperlocal news to everyone

A lot of our news consumption is national or international. These large publications miss what is happening around our towns and what affects us in our day to day lives. Bulletin is Google’s answer to this. Real news (hopefully) written by real people.

Bulletin is meant to be app that focuses on hyper local news. News in this case being updates about what’s happening in your town or city. Flooded streets, small neighborhood shed fires, that sort of thing. The idea is that these newsbreaks will help local people keep abreast of what is happening so they can go about their lives safely.

The app is updated by the community. So anyone can put together a story to help out other people who live around them. It works with smartphones so anyone who can download the app can become an instant news producer. This is still in its beta and only available in two cities. If this proves successful, we could be getting a lot more of news straight from our neighbors.
