ByteSpotter Hard Drives look great, but will break the bank

I’ll admit that I’m a sucker for a nice-looking PC. I’m rather proud of my setup, and usually take into account how a device is going to look when I add something to my desk. Mind you, I won’t spend a great deal of extra money to have something nicer-looking. For instance, when selecting a new hard drive, I’m not going to pay an extra $400 to have it look really, really nice.

A company called CONVAR is selling high-end hard ByteSpotter drives with cases made from the finest materials. The most noticeable feature being the clear casing over the platter itself. This means you can watch it spin while your data is being accessed. Unfortunately the $482 price tag for the 1TB model is just ridiculous. What’s more, is that despite this being obviously suited for an external drive, there doesn’t appear to be a USB or eSATA port on it. There is mention of it in a PDF on their website, but the lack of an actual port on the drive tells me that you’ll need some sort of ugly adapter to actually use it outside of your PC.

  • The drive comes with a USB connector and can be changed to USB3, FW and Thunderbolt – http://youtu.be/Q0K5M6CYgx4 – Its very future safe, since you can change the interface to what ever need you have.
