Cacoon is half tent, half hammock

Going camping always sounds like fun. Well, until you actually get there and are swarmed by bugs that either fly in while you’re zipping up the tent, or crawl in through holes on the ground. There is really nothing worse than waking up to a colony of ants eating your granola bars and mosquitoes nibbling on your legs in the morning.

Seeing as you still enjoy camping, you would obviously want to find an alternative method to staking a tent into the bug-ridden ground. This is where the Cacoon (no, not cocoon) comes in to save the day. This is a combination of a tent, hammock, and a swing, all in one. So long as you can find a tree sturdy enough, you can sleep suspended in the air. However, this luxury does come at a price. The single Cacoon will cost you $349, while a double will put you at $550. Although, that is likely what you would spend on a nice tent that goes on the ground, so why not go for comfort and freedom from bugs? Well, most of them anyway.

  • Very nice—but how weatherproof is it? The maker’s page says natural canvas; that’s groovy, I guess, but not very encouraging as a rainy-day tent.
