Canon 5D II DSLR – a real game changer?

Canon5dii

I’ve just got to mention that this Canon 5D II DSLR really looks as though it’s going to be a game changer in the digital photography market. Not necessarily because of that 21 megapixel resolution, impressive as it is, but really because of the amazing 1080 HD video it’s capable of shooting. It’s the combination of low low light and the wide range of lens options, see? Amazing stuff. At this price point it really looks unbeatable right now. Keep an eye on it…

High ISO For handheld shooting in low light, the EOS 5D Mark II offers ISO speeds of up to 6400. For dark scenes where using flash is undesirable, this can be expanded to an incredible ISO 25600. Full HD movie recording The EOS 5D Mark II complements outstanding still imaging capabilities with Full HD (1080) video recording. Users can even shoot video to memory card without losing the ability to capture still images. An HDMI connection allows High Definition playback of footage and images on an HDTV.

  • I think the Nikon D90 was the first to offer HD video recording.

  • ACK! 21 Megapixels????

Ye Gods, who needs to shoot wall-sized photos at magazine resolution??

  • @Gerry, I think it’s about choice. With that many megapixels you have a much greater choice about cropping and suchlike. I think. :-)

  • I can only hope that someday these features get trickled down to the much more affordable Rebel/kiss series.

  • Kainnon – unquestionably. Thus is it always! :-)

  • Nigel, but the problem/question is how long will it take to take to trickle down to the masses…

Kinda funny how this camera can make an 8 gb memory card feel anemic.
I guess photography is the “killer app” nowadays; the driving force behind a whole host of hardware purchases.
