Volafile – insane, addictive, anarchic real time chat and file sharing explodes onto the eyeballs

We’ve been around the block for a while, so we’re not easily surprised. Really. But very occasionally something pops up on the radar which rocks the shocks. The new Volafile service is one of those. Think of a combination of IRC, Chatroulette, Mega anonymous file sharing and throw a gratuitous MP3 radio station into the mix and you’re kind of close.

Light-Up Skull Bottle Stopper – not just for poison anymore

The lesson has been taught to children for decades – a skull and crossbones symbol means poison… or death… or pirates. Nobody eats or drinks anything that has this dreaded sigil on it. Fortunately, that lesson only applies to kids because, as adults, we can drink anything we want, regardless of whether it might kill us or not.

Tatametto Folding Safety Helmet – stay one step ahead of Chicken Little with this affordable head gear

The world is a dangerous place, with falling objects lurking around every corner. As Wile E. Coyote has shown time and again, even walking down the street brings the risk of being flattened by an anvil, a piano, or a safe. But now you can protect yourself and your loved ones with a clever new product from Japan.

Yahoo!’s bizarre email recycling decision comes back to haunt the company

A scant four months after we first broke the news that Yahoo! has implemented a bizarre system of recycling old email addresses once users close their account, things have got a whole lot worse. As we predicted at the time in our report, ‘this seems like one of the most bizarre things we’ve heard for a long time, and something which is potentially open to massive abuse if people aren’t careful.’

BoooTube – all the worst rated YouTube videos in one shudderingly horrible place

So we all know – and maybe even love? – YouTube, right? It’s full of insane, glorious and enchanting stuff. And kittens. But what about the awful videos, the kind of material which never should have been allowed birth? Shouldn’t there be a home for all those turkeys, which those of us with a masochistic streak can…ahem…enjoy?

The aliens are coming, the aliens are coming…Alabama terrified

In today’s world where almost everyone is connected to the Internet, who would have thought that a mere radio ad would have people running around all over the place in the belief that an alien invasion is upon us. Orson Welles famously triggered mass hysteria over the radio waves in 1938 with his War of The Worlds broadcast, but in 2013? Really?

BW1 Golf Cart Hovercraft – forget about water hazards, just have fun

The one thing you can say about the ancient royal game of golf is it’s designed to take you back to nature. Just you, the trees, bushes and grass and a infernally annoying little ball you’re trying to get down a tiny hole. The stroll across the fairways, the gentle sound of the putt as it strokes the ball somewhere close to the hole. It’s all so beautifully serene.

Riot Training For Two – I say old chap, any chance of you lobbing that gas canister the other way…?

You can often get a fairly good indication of the declining level of a civilization from the state of its leisure activities. The Romans enjoyed brutal arena sports right up to the end of their empire, and the ancient Aryan’s idea of fun was to let loose a horse and declare war on the owner of the land where it stopped to eat. And so it goes…

Sand by Brookstone – What is this magic?!

There’s something comforting about playing with wet sand. It reminds you of being at the beach, and not having to worry about schedules, work, or responsibilities. The only problem is that you don’t really want to keep a cup of wet sand on your desk, as that is just a mess waiting to happen. If sand had similar properties to Play-Doh, then things would be a lot easier wouldn’t they?
