Phone 2.0.

A tale of two new millennium phone services. In the geek corner, Voxalot. A free least cost routing SIP service which offers a lot of functionality wrapped up in a rather kludgy design. Of especial interest, the cheap VoIP rate for mobile calls. In the marketing corner, Talkety. Phone to phone ring back offering cheap VoIP calls without the hassle of having to set up hardware etc. Basic service, pretty package. Who will win? Why the company that comes along…

Pin in the Map.

Pin in the Map. Google Maps plus some smarts = a neat way of sending map info of a specific location via email. Mark it, attach some info, send the link. The links are permanent, you can have private and public links, and it creates Google Earth links too. It’s pretty darn cool all round, mateys.  When you’re happy with your preview, click “save”. The system will remember what zoom level you were at, and the type of map you…

Pixpo.

Pixpo. Hmm…I’ve been playing around with this beta video sharing application and it’s very sweet. In a ‘really easy to use’, Bubbleshare, 2 minute sign up kind of way. What’s nice about some of these new service apps is that they’re really quick and dirty to use – no fiddling about with long winded sign-ups, reading FAQs or figuring out obscure user interfaces. With this one for example, it’s literally  – download app, install, choose all the videos you want to…

Jungle Disk.

Jungle Disk. Hmm…at last, online storage priced right – 20 GB for $3.40 a month anyone? And what’s more it’s using the massive and securely feelgood Amazon S3 storage system. Yep, this sounds like the future galloping up to us right now. [Via Metafilter]  Jungle Disk is an application that lets you store files and backup data securely to Amazon.com’s S3 Storage Service. * Store an unlimited amount of data for only 15¢ per gigabyte * No monthly subscription fee, no…

Post Simple.

Post Simple. Hmm…there is something rather compelling about this simple online service. Enter your text and press the create button and you get a link to your text which you can distribute, make private or send to others. And people can comment. It’s really a very basic idea, and yet…well maybe genius. Try it and see. For an example of the kind of thing you can do see this post. In fact thinking about it, it’s one of those things where…

How to reinstall Windows without losing data.

How to Reinstall Windows Without Losing Your Data. Pretty useful really.  There’s a difference between a repair reinstall and a complete reinstall. Though a repair (also called a refresh) will let you keep your current settings, a complete reinstall will give you a truly fresh version of Windows. Repairs are fast and easy, but they don’t fix anywhere near as many problems. The instructions below are for total reinstalls, except where noted.

LogoYes.

LogoYes. Choose brand position, industry, symbol, text, layout. Fork over $99.00 and walk away with your own logo. On the fence here, peeps. On the fence. But worth a look-see nevertheless.

AjaxXLS.

AjaxXLS. Another in the Ajax family of stuff. This time an online Microsoft Excel viewer which aims to be an easier option than downloading the official MS viewer for Excel spreadsheets. Worth a bookmark, I suppose, although it still feels rather crude and beta.  With one click you can easily open any .xls file in just a few seconds. The interactivity and responsiveness provided by AJAX programming allows you to enjoy the power and utility of a spreadsheet without the…

Beeplet.

Beeplet. Reminders for forgetful people. You know, birthdays, anniversaries, meetings. That kind of thing. Sure we know you’ve got a mobile phone with alarms, but that’s not so much Web 2.0 pastel green fun, is it? Dufus.

AjaxTunes.

AjaxTunes. Online music player and locker. Which uses Ajax (or does it?). You’re way ahead of us aren’t ya, clever clogs. Anyhoo, this apparently has something to do with Michael Robertson. So there.  ajaxTunes is a web-based media player that lets you play, pause, forward and rewind high-quality streaming music straight from the Internet on any computer. Jumpcut.

Jumpcut. Hmm..not sure whether I fully appreciate the value of online video editing tools, but this here is one such. Who knows, it may be useful to you, dear patrons. Editing, remixing, community. Yum.  If you’ve been wondering what to do with the video you shoot with your snazzy new camera (or your phone), jumpcut is the perfect place for you to be creative. If video isn’t your thing just yet and you just want to make cool slideshows with…

To Read.

To Read. Nifty idea, an email based bookmark service. Find a site you like? Just click on the bookmarklet and have it delivered to your inbox. I like services which move stuff through email. Much more efficient.  If you find it hard to manage your “toread” web pages, just try “toread”, an email-based bookmark service. “toread” gives you a simple way to go through your “toread” web pages. It’s simple, free and handy after all, all-in-emails! As you receive your…
