Tzukuri – the first sunglasses which you can’t lose

Almost everyone has had that moment when they’ve managed to leave behind a perfect pair of sunglasses. On a chair, table, bus, taxi, club or grassy knoll. Sunglasses never ever seem to break, they just disappear. As if their time with you is over and they’re on to brighter horizons. We think it’s some kind of a conspiracy with odd socks, but that’s probably a story best left to another time. It’s more likely you just forgot them in a…

SwissRoomBox – turn any car into a camper van with this super suitcase kit

The lure of the open road attracts millions of people every year, to pack up your troubles and head out on the highway. It’s the stuff of romance and adventure. But it’s a fact that you need quite a bit of money if you’re going to do it the more comfortable way, by buying a camper van or RV. But now there’s a better option.

Strati – world’s first 3D printed car gets its first drive out

A tiny bit of history was probably made a few weeks ago when the world’s first 3D printed car was driven out in public for the first time. Of course when we say 3D printed, we mean the bodywork and interior etc, not the motor, suspension or other metallic parts. That would be rather difficult right now. But maybe not in a few years or so?

Chic-Robot Smart S1 – could this be the Segway killer we’ve been waiting for?

The idea of personal electric transportation has really taken hold of the imagination judging by the number of Segway like products flooding the market in China and the Far East. We’re not told exactly what the sales figures are, and certainly there are no photos of hundreds of ex-pedestrians poodling around Beijing on their new toys, but it definitely seems to be gaining in interest. Now there’s a new arrival which looks like it could actually convince people to give…

SeatyLock – the first really cool and workable new security device for bicycles we’ve seen

We hate promoting Kickstarter projects as you know, but this one deserves a bit of attention, because it looks like it could actually solve a big problem for bicycle riders across the world. The SeatyLock is what it says, a bike saddle which converts into a bike lock when you’re parked up. Now there have been a ton of crowdfunding attempts to improve the bike lock, and most of them have been patently rubbish. Not so this one.

Legion Meter – charge your phone at light speed

This always happens. I look at my phone and it’s at some ridiculously low battery level. Then I look at the clock and realize I don’t have time to charge it before I have to run off and do some highly important task. I either leave with a dying phone or see what I can get from five minutes plugged in. The Legion Meter plans to put a stop to this.

Nexstar Evolution 6 – the smartphone friendly robot telescope for the family astronomer

Stargazing is one of those activities that anyone can enjoy. There’s a great big galaxy out there and it’s fascinating, and there’s always a chance you might see a UFO or a giant asteroid set on a collision course for the planet. You never know. The Nexstar Evolution 6 is a remote controlled robot telescope that lets even the most amateur stargazer explore the skies.

Forest – break your phone addiction and start focusing on life [Freeware]

It’s like an addiction, isn’t it? All this gazing at our mobile phone screens, looking for emails, texts, Facebook posts, anything which we’re scared of missing. Even when we’re somewhere important, like a birthday party, a concert, even a job interview, we’re desperate to pull out the phone and check just one more time, quickly. Honest, it won’t take a second.

Cheetah Bot – say hello to the new all electric, running jumping pet of the future

Oh it may not look like much right now, but pretty soon you’re going to start seeing properly clothed versions of these…ahem…puppies scooting around town behind their owners, no question. It’s just a matter of getting the batteries right we reckon. MIT Cheetah Bot is a research project at MIT to develop an autonomous robot ‘creature’, rather like the original and rather scary LS3 ‘dog’ from Boston Dynamics.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-CM1 Camera Phone – the Android smartphone that’s also a 4K camera, things just got real…

Every so often in tech a new product arrives on the market which doesn’t quite make sense, but is still rather cool. These products often don’t find a mass market, but what they do is point the way to a future iteration which will eventually indeed make waves, and possibly even create a new market segment. The new Panasonic Lumix DMC-CM1 Smart Camera [original] is just such a product.

Portland Jacket – be smart and be safe on your bicycle at the same time with this disguised reflective jacket

Traveling by bicycle is typically a frustrating compromise between either arriving looking like a refuge from the Tour de France, or risking your life through wearing conventional clothes which aren’t that road friendly in terms of visibility. Sure you can add lots of lights and reflectors to your bicycle, but now a company in the UK has added another option.

Star Theatre Planetarium – old idea gets updated with some modern star gazing tech

It’s starting to get colder out there. The days of laying in fields gazing at the stars and asking yourself deep questions are just about over. Sure you can do the same thing in the fall but it probably won’t be as comfortable. With the Star Theatre Planetarium, you can gaze at the cosmos from the comfort of your living room.
