Roxer web site creator – fast, simple and very cool web design tool

Roxer is cool. Very cool. Yes it’s just a web site creator, but my how far we’ve come since the drudgy days of Geocities peeps. The whole thing takes minimalism to a new dimension. Want to edit your page? Click the padlock bottom left, and drag and drop your elements around the page instantly. No mess, no fuss. Text, menu items, images, makes no difference. The control panel for all this editing loveliness is a tiny bar, again bottom left…

Drum Buddy & BeatBearing – DIY instruments prove that invention is the mother of Frank Zappa

Drum Buddy is a great example of what seems to be a growing trend towards ‘build your own’ musical instruments. OK, so a lot of them seem to be a little..ah…digital and not hugely melodic, but it’s a start. Open source the music making business we say. So to say, take a look at the BeatBearing video too, ‘cause it is also digital cool. Tags: gadget, drum+buddy, beatbearing, music+instruments

Best of Make – fun geek things to do with your massive spare time

The Best of Make book is out and it’s a fun read. If you’re an obsessive geek head with a compulsion to create useful artifacts which wobble, vibrate, glow and…well…geek at you all day long. Many of the 75 projects may not be that useful, but they’re definitely F.U.N. and they’ll earn you credit down at the next LAN party all right, no question. DIY Fire Alarm Clock – loud, loud, and red, red..

This DIY Fire Alarm Clock may be overkill, but hey, maybe you’re a little deaf? Eh? What’s that you say?  This hack takes a standard cheap alarm clock, some interface components and a fire alarm bell to get the job done right. Normally these small alarm clocks use a piezo buzzer to attempt to wake you up. The alarm signal is hijacked from the clock circuit board and used as an input to the interface board. How to make emergency eyeglasses – jungle survival 102

How to make some emergency eyeglasses. Useful little tip, no?  These emergency glasses are designed to restore a bit of your sight by working on the principle of the pinhole camera. The pinhole captures only certain straight rays of light that focus on the retina of the eye (or on the film plane of a pinhole camera). Align several of these pin holes onto an opaque surface and look through it, and voila! – each hole becomes a tiny lens…

XR-3 Hybrid – three wheeler hybrid kit will give 225 mpg…eventually

The XR-3 Hybrid Kit Car is a three wheeled diesel-electric hybrid concept vehicle that will offer up 200+ mpg fuel economy and a maximum speed of 85 mph. Sure it’s a three wheeler with only two seats, but it’s still interesting. I’m calling it a concept because it looks like the project has slipped quite a bit from a planned launch earlier this year, and the idea is that the company will sell kit plans and eventually ready made vehicles….
