A computer screen that only you can see – because sometimes it’s fun to make people wonder

Ever feel like the recipient of unwanted attention as co-workers, family members, and people you don’t even know hover around your personal space, looking intently at what you’re doing on the computer? Want to mess with their heads as they stare at a field of white while you type merrily away? You can, and it’s fairly easy to do.

Winscape – escape from your dreary basement to the beach in an instant with this DIY kit

Virtual window displays for wall mounted high resolution flat screen televisions is nothing new, but the latest tech has sure made them pretty cool all of a sudden. It helps also that the price of really top quality screens has plummeted over the past few years, so where it was once too expensive, it now almost makes sense to get one of these, especially if you’re stuck in a basement with no natural light.

Make Your Own Stereogram – amaze friends and family with your very own optical magic

Stereograms are probably the earliest form of 3D image, discovered by some English dude in 1838. The images are actually more about depth perception than true 3D, but when you view them properly they can really be fun. The pleasure comes from finally seeing the hidden pattern, so the thrill is in the skill, if you see what I mean.

Bleep Drum Kit

If you really want to make your own music, you should probably learn to play an instrument. If you have a general feel for the beat but aren’t too inclined to dealing with pitch, then percussion may be your forte. Buying the instrument is the next hassle, as you don’t necessarily want to drop a bunch of money on something you don’t know how to play yet.

Secret Knock Detecting Lock – Knock knock! Who’s there?

Did you ever have a club house where you had to have a secret password or knock to get in? While we can’t exactly fit into the old tree house, that doesn’t mean we can’t still keep the secret knock between friends. The only difference is that you have to be a bit sneakier in the implementation, or not everyone will play along.
