What do you give the guy who has everything? How about a fully equipped video studio in a utility vehicle. It’s a Mercedes ML-500 which has a complete broadcast studio crammed – and I mean crammed – into the back. There’s room for the driver and one passenger, every other seat is….er….occupied. German readers can find out more information at the i-wagen site.

GSM Show One product which I thought had the potential to be huge was LavaSphere from German company Gavitec. This is basically a software tool which will let you scan bar codes with any camera equipped mobile phone. They were pushing their kit for the upcoming Nokia 7650 on the stand, but said that it could be ported to any handset if needed. I think this has the potential to be a HUGE technology market. The idea of being able…

GSM Show Not content with an MP3 player inside your phone? Want more? Then how about a nice integrated DAB (digital audio broadcast) radio? CD quality radio on subscription without the ads. What makes this interesting is that current DAB receivers are quite expensive, and definitely larger than the ones the folks at Panasonic here have shoe-horned into their concept phone. The bulge at the back of the handset contains all the receiver, amp, pre amp bits etc. Hopefully it…

GSM Show Speaking of interesting products, here’s one which struck my eye on my way round the crowded show. Although it’s not really a handset show, many manufacturers were taking the chance to show off concept stuff, giving an indication of where things are heading. One thing to realise is that COLOUR is in. Expect a rash of colour screen handsets to come galloping out of the stalls this year. Samsung SCH X 275 video phone. Out in Korea in…

GSM Show Just spent a few days at the GSM World show in Cannes. Interesting stuff. Star of the show? Undoubtedly the Nokia 7650. This little dual band phone has a built in camera, and will mainly be marketed as an ‘imaging’ device when it arrives later this quarter. But the marketing hype doesn’t do it justice. Up close, it really is a neat piece of kit. It fits into the hand perfectly (the rounded shape at the back actually…

So you’re suffering from an AOL shut out on Trillian, and can’t connect to your buddies? Why not check out Vista from i3connect? It’s not the prettiest thing out there, but it looks to have all the IM bells and whistles you’re ever likely to need, as well as compatibility to AIM, ICQ, MSN, IRC and Yahoo! It also claims to be the only IM client which will allow you to simultaneously conference chat with buddies from different services. Interesting…

I’ve been playing with a fabulous little digital photo album creator called Diji Album. It’s from New Zealand – OK so its author is a Kiwi, grin – but don’t hold that against it. The fact is that it’s a really cool bit of software. You can use it to tweak up your photos, and then create albums of your own design (with or without text and artistic bits on the page) and then either create self running exe files…

What if EVERY word on a Web page was automatically hyperlinked to Google so that you could do an instant search on it, merely by clicking on the word? Well you would have a Hyperdoc apparently. It’s a neat idea, which could make for some interesting sites one day. Thanks Ben for the link.

Just found a new free anti virus package to rival AVG from Grisoft. The strangely named AVAST! looks OK, I haven’t tried it yet, because I use AVG, but it goes on to the interesting list.

You’re stuck in a railway station and can’t find out how to buy a ticket because you can’t speak the language? Easy peasy. Just enter in the phrase ‘where is the ticket office?’ into the little Universal Translator gizmo and out should come a translation in any one of three major languages – German, French, Spanish. I say should, because I haven’t had a chance to test it out yet, I’ll know more as and when I do. In the…

It may not seem like much, but this little chip could herald the dawn of a new era in digital photography. The Foveon chip promises to deliver stunning images from digicams by doing away with the need for separate chips for each colour. The result is crisp, clear and beautifully realised colour images. Or so the PR release says. We’ll have to wait a month or so until the first cameras are out and reviewed, but this really could be…

Well here’s something dedicated to bloggers everywhere. An article on the nature of the Internet. You see, the Web runs on love not greed. Remember that, eh? :-) And thanks to Ben for the link.

There is so little that’s original on the web these days. Everything seems a bit recycled, plagiarised, stolen, revisited, reworked, repackaged. Especially in the personal publishing world.
