Clothes shopping has got to be one of the most painful experiences in the world, especially on busy weekends in hot, crowded stores and changing rooms. But digital technology is coming to the rescue. We stumbled on a cool little product at the IFA show in Berlin last week which now offers shoppers a reprieve from the changing room blues at last.

OK, so we may be heading into the winter temperatures and all that stuff, but we don’t have to take it lying down. Oh no sirree! For those of us willing to fight back, we can fire up the big screen TV, plug in a phone or tablet and get this Tropical Beach Video running on YouTube to restore our good mood.
The new Samsung Galaxy S5 is the latest iteration of the now venerable line of Android smartphones from the giant Korean company. It features all the typical Samsung flair for features and razzle dazzle, but underneath the glitz there’s a pretty solid piece of phone engineering that works as well as you’d expect from a flagship handset.

It’s not often they let the Intel engineers out into the sunlight, most of the time they’re kept locked in dark dungeons slaving away on stuff which we may see in a few years time. But this week the unthinkable happened, and the might chip maker decided to show off some of the cool stuff they’re working on, and we were invited along to have a play and video. It was rather neat.
Watching the entertainment industry struggle with the brutal reality of the modern digital world is rather like watching an ultra slow motion car crash, and it also seems strangely reminiscent of the the way the original motion picture industry fought the Edison movie monopoly back in the early 1900s. Rebels fighting a dominant group of self-serving business interests. What goes around comes around as they say, eh?
If you’re one of those folks who’ve been bitten by the video bug, you’ll know all about the joys and frustrations of getting your work done. Apart from having to learn all the ropes, it’s also tricky putting together professional looking productions without having the money to spend on the nice little extras. One extra which is particularly valuable is the use of B-roll, or stock footage, which can really add something to your video.

We don’t often feature straight YouTube videos, but when we do, they’re worthwhile. If you’ve ever been in a meeting comprising suits and ‘experts’ – typically tech or engineers – you will recognize the truth in this spoof instantly. And painfully. We literally exploded with recognition here. Hilarious and wonderful.

Let’s take a short walk, shall we? To see how unbelievably strange the world of viral videos really is right now. The tour, which eventually leads to a video which has gathered 1 million views in just 2 days (!), starts with a small island just off the coast of Africa, called Sao Tome and Principe.
When you watch movies today, it’s probably a good idea to thank the classic 16mm camera for your theatrical entertainment because some of Hollywood’s greats began following their dream with this iconic film camera. Today’s students and indie filmmakers can still enjoy the feel of the classic camera while enjoying the luxury and convenience of digital at the same time.

There’s a growing number of sites devoted to delivering movies to us, which is good news for those of us who enjoy a bit of down time now and then. The movies on offer are typically not blockbuster affairs (but is that surprising, considering how few there are nowadays?) but come from the perpetual B and C movie machine which never stops churning.
When I was in school there was usually a globe in the classroom which was made of plastic and covered with paper maps. Now there’s a different kind of globe to play with. The Wordeye actually deserves a better name than globe because it allows you to see the Earth in all its glory, but also does so much more.
