Met Player – brings the Metropolitan Opera to your desktop

Believe it or not opera is cool, it’s chock-full of drama, action, lust, drama, singing, drama, violence and a bit of drama thrown in for good measure. Sure there’s lots of singing but it’s great singing. The Metropolitan Opera in New York is doing their bit to get the word around with Met Player a streaming video service broadcasting over 150 full length operas, in HD and SD with subtitles as well as Audio-Only. There’s a free 7 day trial…

Canon 5D II DSLR – a real game changer?

I’ve just got to mention that this Canon 5D II DSLR really looks as though it’s going to be a game changer in the digital photography market. Not necessarily because of that 21 megapixel resolution, impressive as it is, but really because of the amazing 1080 HD video it’s capable of shooting. It’s the combination of low low light and the wide range of lens options, see? Amazing stuff. At this price point it really looks unbeatable right now. Keep…

Just Meet – online virtual reality telepresence meeting room for rent

Just Meet is a virtual reality telepresence meeting room where up to 16 people can gather to chat, crack jokes, drink virtual Mountain Dew and watch Powerpoint slides of their last holiday. Or something. It’s kind of weird actually, in a ‘eeyew, who did the interior design on the roomscape?’ kind of way, but in these lean and unsettling times there may well be a growing population of people abandoning long-haul flight costs in favour of this rough and ready £15.00 an hour…

2 sec Firefox video bug fix – sort out that annoying freeze frame, Farah

If you’ve ever suffered the 2 second YouTube video freeze in Firefox under Windows XP, then here’s a couple of cures to try. Number 1 usually works best for me. Wish they’d fix the problem though, ‘cause it’s a pain. Ctrl-Alt-Del – Task manager – Processes – highlight Firefox – Right mouse click – End Process Tree. Navigate to Windows – System32 – Macromed – Flash – click on npswf32 FlashUtil.exe. Another suggestion I’ve seen is to copy the file NPSWF32.dll from C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash…

The T-Eye ADR3000 Drive Recorder contains two VGA quality 170 degree video cameras, a GPS receiver and a solid state recorder which constantly capture footage of your car journey at 20 fps. Immediately something like an accident happens, the G-force sensors detect the impact and freeze the important 4 minutes of video and audio, along with GPS details of your vehicle’s movements. Voila, an impartial, reliable and incorruptible passenger to prove that it was the other guy speeding what caused…

SEE2 Xtreme – USB to DVI adapter, looking good

Nigel blogged about the Tritton SEE2 USB-to-VGA a couple of years ago, but the Tritton people haven’t been standing around since then. The Xtreme allows people to add multiple displays to their desktop or notebook even if their video card doesn’t support extra screens. TubeTilla – clever little YouTube downloader and converter

TubeTilla gets our prize for the most twee product name of the week, but because it’s freeware, we’re going to forgive and forget. We’re nice like that. The software lets you download YouTube videos, so ho-hum eh? But the cool bit is the conversion on the fly to audio or different video formats for replay on different devices. Just select the video you want to download, and click on the relevant Save button and that’s it. All very clever, and…

Enhancing video with still photos – astonishing video technology creeps its way out of the test labs

This video demonstrates prototype video enhancing technology that may one day radically change the face of video production and editing. The team has basically come up with a set of software tools to help enhance resolution massively, touch up and remove objects, reduce camera shake and even enhance exposure and dynamic range all in post production. But don’t take our word for it, check out the video yourself, it’s pretty impressive. (Oh and do take a look at this amazing video tech from…
