Chatterbox plus…

The good folk at Actiontec appear to have gone all Skype mad on us, releasing a flurry of recent announcements and product under the VoSky brand like there was no tomorrow. Pictured above is the Chatterbox, a Skype enabled speakerphone that frees you from the clumsy headset club for just $29.95.

Also now available is the Call Center, which acts as a sort of home phone router to let you make Skype calls from any phone, any time. Just connect it to your home PC and landline and fire up Skype. Then when you’re out and about and need to place a call, phone home and the box will automatically route your conversation through Mrs Skype’s pendultumous service. Sure your PC has to be running permanently, but cheapo Skype calls from your mobile? Thinkaboutit!

Probably the most important of the announcements however, is the VoSky Exchange box, which will let small businesses Skype enable their PBX office phone systems at a stroke. And strokes are what telco executives are going to start getting when they discover their most lucrative customer base defecting en masse to the VoIP rebel leader. 200 employees merrily chatting away on Skype via their office phone? Feel the pain! See the press release for more. The box will only be available as part of a bundled PBX product sale, so there’s no separate price on it, and don’t bother looking for it at your local computer store. At least that’s what the nice lady at Actiontec told me.

This PBX add-on enables every phone extension in the office to make and receive Skype calls without any changes to existing PBX equipment, phones or user PCs, yielding major savings on both domestic long-distance and international calls. Designed for businesses of 10 to 300 employees, VoSKY Exchange is a videocassette-sized device that plugs into the PBX on one end and a Windows XP computer on the other. It adds up to four outgoing Skype lines to the PBX, with rollover capabilities in the event that one line is busy.
