There’s information coming at people from all sides these days and not all of it is true. When we’re talking about climate change, it’s important that people are getting the facts and not the fictions because once the false information has taken hold, it’s hard to tell it apart from the truth.
A new study shows that although people generally had a good grasp about climate change, they were hard pressed to be sort out false statements. This is an issue because it means that people may be carrying around false information which may make them less likely to act on climate change or choose paths that are unhelpful.
There’s nothing to do about this but to maintain accurate and accessible education. Official bodies need to ensure that the information they are putting out to the public is understood and move to combat known false statements.
