Clothing Pollution – your clothes are putting plastic in the oceans

Plastic in the ocean is a huge problem and you’re probably aware of things like plastic bags and soda rings that end up there but did you also know that your clothes are also a problem? As it turns out, washing our clothes also helps to shed plastic into our water supply.

You’ve probably read about the colossal issue of clothing waste thanks to the fast fashion empire. But even if you aren’t buying and tossing t-shirts like there’s no tomorrow and instead wearing your clothing until it wears out, it’s still contributing to the over all waste in the world. Bummer.

There’s no easy answer for this problem but one way is to make washing machines that catch these microfibers before they make it into the environment. So on the next iteration of smart washers, better filters would be amazing. And an alert every fifteen minutes to put the clothes in the dryer.
