Cloud Seeding – this science fiction concept is a reality

Snow, it’s more important than people think. If you’re just living in a city, it’s the white stuff that makes your morning commute a hassle but for people in certain parts of the world that rely on winter snowfall to create the green pastures of spring, the lack of it is causing big problems. No worries though, science can make more with cloud seeding but it has some drawbacks.

The process uses silver iodide, really, really small pieces of silver and releases them into clouds which causes ice to form rapidly which makes snow, even in warmer weather. Like ten degrees warmer, this won’t create snow falls in the middle of summer that stick to the ground.

This won’t help during drought years, which increasingly is becoming a problem. The process doesn’t create water, it just pulls more from the air than it would normally. If there is none, there is none. This isn’t a solution to climate issues, this is only a way to lessen their impact as we all work towards making more longer lasting changes.
