Coal Free Britain – country is coal for the first time since 1882

Good news for Britain! They’ve just done their first week without coal power since 1882! Wow! That’s amazing! Good job! The plants still play a part as a backup option but with more renewable energy options, the need for them will be less and less.

The goal is to be zero carbon by 2025. This is an important step in reducing emissions as coal power produces a ton of waste. It’s also not great to mine either. It’s just not great all around so moving past it would be a major win to many sectors.

This is just a first step but a really big one. Hopefully these sorts of changes keep coming!
