Connect to your home network from anywhereusing DynDNS

Have you ever been out of town, only to realize that you desperately need a file that’s sitting on your PC back home? It’s something that’s happened to me on a few occasions, but thankfully I prepare for such events. Since I don’t have a static IP address, one might think that it’s difficult to get back into my network. However, using a free service such as DynDNS allows me to simply use a URL to access my network, without having to mess with dynamically changing IP addresses.

The trick to this is that you’ll need a piece of hardware on your network that supports DynDNS. It will then monitor your IP, and notify DynDNS any time it changes. You can then use this to FTP to your file server, enable Remote Desktop, or do a number of other functions. If you want to find out more about setting up a DynDNS, follow this great guide.
