CuBox-i – the little computer that can

It’s 2″ x 2″ small, offers you almost everything that its bigger computer cousins can, and yet costs less than a decent pair of sunglasses. What is it?

If you guessed Raspberry Pi, you’re almost right, just move to the right a little and you’ll spot what we’re talking about. The CuBox-i is a full functioning computer in a box only slightly bigger than a matchbox. The unit features HDMI out, 2 x USB ports, Ethernet, microSD for the operating system, infra-red and microUSB for external accessories.

The base single core version costs $54.99, but doesn’t come with WiFi or Bluetooth, you’ll have to spend more to get those as options, and you’ll also ramp up your processor and graphics chipset as well. So for those with slightly more ambitions than a mere Pi, this could be a viable alternative, as long as you have cash (up to $130 or so).

  • what the heck, how big is it?

    • The answer is literally the first 3-4 words of the article. Try reading the article before commenting next time.

  • Can windows be installed on it?

    • Windows ARM could probably ne ported for it, but it wouldn’t be allowed or supported by windows so it’d be difficult.

  • How about Linux Mint and how smooth is the 1080p HDMI playback on it?

    • Buttery playback of 1080p streaming with high bitrates.
