According to this report, top PC maker Dell is planning to expand into consumer electronics like TVs and stuff.
‘”The whole new ballgame is these worlds (computing and consumer electronics) converging, and that’s a world we’re comfortable in,” says CEO Michael Dell.’
Mmm, interesting move since it’s a little debatable whether Dell’s strength in ‘on demand’ distribution to businesses will translate effectively into competitive advantage for home electronics. And let’s not forget that it’s style that drives a lot of home purchases, a fact that Japanese giants like Sony have learned well over the years. Dell hasn’t, has it?
And, ladies and gentlemen of the jury, I present to you as evidence…ta-da…a piccie of the new Dell handheld MP3 jukebox. Ugly ain’t it?
