Desktop Factory closes, but from the ashes …

Image

We only blogged about Desktop Factory in June but it seems they were in a bit of trouble and financial woes have seen them trying to sell the company. Now another rapid prototyping company 3D Systems has picked up the key assets and tools and invited the Desktop Factory staff to join 3D systems. It’s great to see a cutting edge technology not buried by competitors and hopefully that sub US$5,000 rapid prototyping machine will come to fruition soon. [Via Fabbaloo]

… 3D Systems Corporation of Rock Hill, South Carolina has acquired the key assets of Desktop Factory including intellectual property, know-how and tools. Recognizing the importance of continuity, the core team of remaining Desktop Factory employees was invited to join 3D Systems, underscoring their intention to move forward with the development of a sub-$5K 3-D printer.
