Devotec Solar Sound 2 – super cool solar powered Bluetooth speaker really delivers

The new Devotec Solar Sound 2 Bluetooth Speaker has got to be one of the coolest portable speakers I’ve come across yet. As well as offering conventional wireless Bluetooth sound from your mobile phone or other BT device, it can act as a bridge between your phone and HiFi, using the Line Out socket and a cable connected to your stereo system.

The twin speakers really are loud, which probably results from the really solid heft of the case, this is not one of those nasty lightweight plasticy portable speaker units. Pairing is super simple, just switch on and set up your mobile to pair and the two will find each other. No fuss. There’s a very cool touch screen control panel on the front, as well as a mic port, which is used for accepting incoming calls from the phone. Hands free too, eh? Nice.

The thing charges from mains and of course from solar, but I suspect you’ll need some very strong direct sunshine to provide what the manual calls ‘infinite playback’, where the solar panel keeps the battery topped up continuously while listening. Still, it’s a great feature to have solar charging on a product like this, and should extend the playback time significantly in the right conditions. Normal playback is around 10 hours continuous on Bluetooth, more via the 3.5mm Line In socket and cable.

If you’re looking for a solid, loud, long lasting portable speaker to go with your mobile phone or other player then this is a fabulous product to check out first. Sure you’re never going to get real Hi-Fi sound out of something this small, but it’s pretty darn good nonetheless and really blows away most of the cheaper competition completely. Priced at around $99.99 including mains charger, 3.5mm cable (well done!) and case. Excellent!

The Devotec Industries Solar Sound 2 Bluetooth Speakers are light and portable while still being able to produce a deep, clear sound. With integrated bluetooth, they can be connected wirelessly to most of the latest phones, including the iPhone (with use of the iPhone 3.0 software update). The Solar Sound 2 speakers have an integrated solar panel for charging in sunny areas, and a 3.5mm connector for use with music sources that do not have bluetooth (cable supplied).
