Diablotek Linux PC Keyboard – it’s a computer, inside a keyboard, on a desk…

There are two aspects of the personal computer which, over the years, have refused to be dominated by the size lobby. The monitor, which has grown ever bigger on our desktops, and the keyboard. If you do any kind of serious computering, you need a good sized keyboard with a separate number pad and all the bells and whistles.

What’s strange however is the fact that the computer part itself has at the same time shrunk in size to almost nothing, which is a bit of a puzzler.

Nevertheless what could be more logical than introducing a new micro computer which is actually embedded inside a full sized keyboard? The idea is not new, but what makes this one interesting is the fact that it runs Linux by default, not Windows.

The Diablotek U310 Keyboard PC comes with a 1.8GHz dual core processor, 2GB of RAM, a 500 GB hard drive, WiFi, speakers and ultra low noise. It sports four USB 2.0 ports and weighs 2.23kg. The specs are careful to point out there’s no internal camera, and we’ve also noticed there’s no monitor, so you’ll need to add your own.

Not sure what species of Linux it’s running, but we bet it’s going to be faster than an equivalent install of Windows 7/8/9 by a factor. You can pick one up for $169.99 from an online store near you now.
