Dipity gets our prize of the week for the funnest product name, and maybe even the most interesting application. Creating a timeline is not something that probably crops up in your mind every day, but with this tool, when it next does you’ll know what to do. Just roll up your sleeves and get to it. You can create personal timelines using your social network feeds like Facebook or Twitter, or start from scratch and manually add a slew of events from anything or any time you like. The result is a linear depiction of whatever you entered, all done with some nice eye candy sauce.

You can add images, video and text stuff, link to external websites and do a bunch of clever things like view it in flip book or map view using Google maps (if you have locations logged in the events). Of course being very Web 2.0 it’s all about community, comments, other people editing your timeline if you allow etc etc. At the end of the day though, it’s all about a timeline, which is a pretty limited thing, isn’t it? I’m not sure just how much value this is going to add to the world of information, no matter how pretty or clever the design is. I like it, but I fear that it will languish in the corner of the room until someone comes up with a vital use for it and we all slap foreheads and go – ‘ahhhh riiiight, so that’s what it’s for’. Nice app though!
