Doomsday Clock Moves Closer To Midnight – thanks to the climate crisis

The Doomsday Clock has moved to the closest it’s been to the midnight of civilization in a long time. We are now 100 seconds from midnight and a lot of that danger isn’t due to the strife between world leaders, but due to man made climate change.

The Doomsday Clock came into being in 1947 as reaction to the Cold War and nuclear arms race. It was a easy way to explain to people how dire things were. After the Cold War ended, we didn’t really hear much about it but it is still in use. It’s gone up and down but it’s ticking closer.

Issues between countries are of course not making it better but a significant reason the hands have moved so close is because of the issues that come with the climate crisis. Disasters, famine, lowered health outcomes, etc are all putting humanity at risk for extinction. That being said, this is an issue that is in our control to change but we’re running out of time to do so.
