DropIt is a cool little free Windows utility which lets you perform a variety of actions on files just by dragging and dropping onto an ‘arrow’ icon. Mac users will probably yawn at this point, but for Windows users this is a new and potentially very exciting feature. Honest!
The cool thing is you can set it up to process a number of rules, not just moving, copying etc. This means you could set the program up to automatically extract and run data in a specific program just by dragging the file onto the icon. Very neat. You can also set it up to handle folders, which again is a great way to set up instant backups or batch photo editing with one drag. Definitely worth a download.
You can configure DropIt to do various actions to your files and folders, based on file-name and/or file-type rules. Actually you can Move, Copy, Compress, Extract, Open With, Delete and Exclude dropped items. You can even save sets of parameters in Profiles for different purposes, projects, drives or computers. Drop a group of assorted files and/or folders on the floating DropIt image and it sorts them to defined destination folders, eventually compresses or extracts them, opens them with defined programs or does other actions. You should go do something enjoyable with the time you saved.
