Easy-Bake Oven goes “Ultimate” and ditches the bulb in favor of a heating element

The Easy-Bake Oven is one of those classic toys that everyone wanted as a kid. Sure, it was marketed toward girls, but who doesn’t love cake? I always wanted one, myself, but I don’t think my parents thought that it was appropriate. These days I can bake full-sized confections in my real oven, but for today’s children, there is a new version of the classic toy.

In case you weren’t aware, the 100-watt bulb is being phased out in the US. This is due to it’s inefficiency, which is exactly why it has been used in the Easy Bake Oven for many a year. So what has Hasbro decided to do about this? Well they’re replacing the bulb with a more efficient heating element and re-branding it the Easy-Bake Ultimate Oven. You’ll even be able to bake pizzas, pretzels and more, in addition to the usual treats.
