Email It In – email your files directly to Dropbox, Google Drive or Skydrive for quick and easy storage

If you regularly store or archive files to an online service like Dropbox as part of your day to day activities, then you’ll know that it’s not the most elegant system in the world. You need to either keep the service running permanently on your computer, or go through all that tedious login stuff.

Well you may be pleased to learn that there’s now a service that lets you email your files to an online service as an attachment. The Email It In service, works with Dropbox, Google Drive and Skydrive. Once you have signed up, you get a special email address, and when you need to store a file, all you do is create an email to that address, and attach the file in question.

The free plan is limited to 10 attachments a month, up to 5MB in size each, so it’s not going to cope with super large high res images or things like that, in which case you’ll need to sign up to the $3 a month (or $30 yearly) unlimited service. This upgrade also gives you forced encryption (rather than optional) and also the ability to create a list of authorized email addresses which can send files to your cloud storage of choice. Great for giving clients super easy access to your Dropbox or Google Drive etc.

It couldn’t be easier to use. Once you have sent the email with the attachment, it lands inside the Email It In folder in the Apps folder of your online storage service, and if you set the options the upload will also include any HTML or text you add to the email message. This makes it very useful for annotations, client communications and other regular communications needs.

It’s fast, efficient and something that deserves to catch on in a big way, since just about everyone knows how to email an attachment, whereas fiddling around with service logins is not everybody’s cup of tea. Lovely app!
