Emergency stickers tell you where to drill if you need to destroy your hard drive in a hurry

I can’t say that I have any data on my computer that I’d really be worried about if the police came to my door and demanded it. But let us imagine for a moment that you are the sort of person who has information that you don’t want seen by anyone’s eyes. One way of preventing that from happening is to actually destroy the drive itself. It’ll take a lot of work to piece together data off of fragmented shards. But do you know where to stick a drill if the time comes?

Over at the Free Art & Technology site, they have designed a set of printable stickers that will let you know exactly where to point your drill, should you be so desperate. The first thing you’ll do is locate the hard drive on your laptop, then print off one of the stickers (using the right kind of paper, of course) and put it on your computer. Honestly though, you’re better off using a strong method of encryption for your data. Another good tip is to not have anything incriminating on there in the first place.

  • Hey! Do you know if they make any plugins to safeguard against hackers? I’m kinda paranoid about losing everything I’ve worked hard on. Any recommendations?

  • Of course a mac user would need a sticker to know where the hdd is. jk
