Fast Shipping Hurts The Environment – slower shipping is the more environmental choice

We need to talk about our obsession with fast shipping. Yes, it’s awesome that when you buy something it can be at your door quickly, sometimes the same day! But that sort of speed comes at a cost to the environment. So if you don’t need it NOW, slower shipping is better.

Fast shipping costs nothing to the consumer these days but it creates a ton of emissions. Emissions are bad and we need less of them. Slower shipping allows packages to be grouped together which equals less trips. Maybe not directly to your door, but your package can travel with friends during the earlier parts of it’s journey. This will allow for more efficient routes.

Some companies, like Amazon, allow you to choose a delivery date to bundle shipments which is another option and hey, you know when they’re coming! There are going to be things that you need right away and for those, of course, one day shipping or faster is great! But for other things, a bit of a wait is a small price to pay to give the environment a bit of a break.
