FlameStower – charge your devices out in the wild with just some fire and water

flamestower2

We’ve featured a few clever device chargers in the Ferret over the past years, but this one really takes the cake. The idea of using nature to charge up your phone in the wild is hardly new, but what makes the FlameStower stand out is how basic and simple it is to use.

Just grab the charger unit, stick the metal prong end into the nearest flame source (either gas powered or a natural fire will do), pour water into the small cup on top and rock back amazed as the unit starts to generate electricity from some miraculous magic of physics and thermodynamics.

The unit folds almost flat for travel, so it will easily fit into a backpack on a camping trip, and when up and running it generates 2.5 watts of power within a couple of minutes, which is enough to deliver juice to your phone, GPS, music player or whatever. The great thing is all you need is some wood for the fire and a bit of water, no need to worry about capturing sunlight or anything like that. Priced at $89.99.

  • They should sell it with a little parabolic reflector for use as a solar recharging device.
