Food Waste Is a Problem – and it’s mostly veggies and fruits

We waste a lot of food. It doesn’t seem like a big deal but there’s an environmental impact to that waste. Not to mention the economical impact to your budget. It’s time to start being more mindful about our food so we can all cut down on waste.

A new study was done focusing on the US and found that the biggest things wasted in the home were fruits and vegetables. How often have your picked up something fresh with the intention of cooking a great meal that week and just never got around to it? We’ve all thrown out food we just never got around to cooking.

To help steam this, on solution is just to freeze it. If you blanch it (boil for just a few moments) before hand, it will hold its freshness better. This extra steps lets you keep fresher veggies and fruits on hand for when you have time for them so they don’t end up in the dump.
