FreeOCR – freeware OCR software makes you a scanner king (or queen)

Freeocr

FreeOCR is a freeware program which converts text into images into editable text. It supports TWAIN scanners which means you can use it directly from your nearest scanner or AIO printer, and it can transform faxes, PDF and image files as long as they’re over 200dpi in resolution.

Considering this sort of software can cost several hundred dollars in commercial versions, this could be a good addition to your program library. Note that you’ll get better results with this on simple documents. The more complex the layout, the more chance for errors to creep into the output files.

Free OCR is an OCR scanning software including the Windows compiled Tesseract free ocr engine also known as a Tesseract GUI. It includes a Windows installer and It is very simple to use and supports opening multi-page tiff’s, Adobe PDF and fax documents as well as most image types including compressed Tiff’s which the Tesseract engine on its own cannot read .It now can scan using Twain and WIA scanning drivers.
