Freeware helps you track down your lost camera

There’s nothing quite like losing one of your favorite gadgets. If you leave it somewhere public, and it’s not there when you return, there is little chance of ever recovering it. Sure, you could get lucky and it might be picked up by an honest person that does their best to return it to you. However, that isn’t always going to be the case (and they might not even know how to get it to you). Well if the gadget you lose is your camera, you might be able to track it down.

A handy web app called Stolen Camera Finder can track down any pictures that have been taken with your camera and uploaded to Flickr. It does this by searching through Flickr and examining the EXIF data of the images. It specifically searches the EXIF data for the serial number of your camera, which is embedded in all images. And all you have to do is upload a picture taken with your camera, and it will do the rest. Once you do locate someone who has been using your camera, it’ll be up to you to contact them to see if you’ll be able to get it back.
