Future Heatwaves May Lead to Blackouts – the power girds won’t be able to handle the strain

Heatwaves are going to be a major problem with the climate crisis especially for people who live in urban centers. High usage during high temperatures will likely be too much strain on the power grids causing blackouts and leaving the vulnerable without protection.

This is something that is already happening. During the summer when temperatures soared, many of the hottest cites experienced this reality first hand. The problem, as it turns out, will get worse if not planned for now. Current power grids are woefully unprepared to handle the load.

What this means for the future is that when there is a lot of stress on these networks, from people running air conditioning, for example, will cause the grid to become overloaded and then black out. The higher energy demands may also lead to emissions from the higher generation of renewable sources aren’t implemented.
